November Think Magazine hits the stands.  F. Schumacher & Co. is in the middle of celebrating their 125th Anniversary this Fall.  As a tribute to the iconic Company, most of the November Home Trends I featured are from F.Schumacher.  The company has been working the last 4 years with their archives in reproducing some of their all time favorite fabrics from the early 1900’s and beyond.  I had the pleasure of meeting Avodica Ash from Schumacher’s archive department last week during a very informative presentation of how the company started and the history of their fabrics.  F. Schumacher still uses mills in Italy and the United States to produce their fabrics.  There are so many different techniques of how the fabrics are manufactured, from hand blocking to intricate weaving, to digital cylinder producing.  Some of their designs are hand drawn and engraved.  The details that go into the production of the fabrics yields exquisite gorgeous dimensions.  During the presentation some old samples of the original fabrics that were designed from namesakes such as Dorothy Draper, Paul Poiret, Cecil Beaton  were shown.  The company used those to recreate the new fabrics, with maybe a few tweaks to give it a fresh approach.  F. Schumacher still continues the tradition of collaborating with top designers such as Mary McDonald, Celerie Kemble, and Martyn Lawerence Bullard.  The company debuted their anniversary with approximately 25 new fabric designs, many of which are available in several color ways.
I also featured some of F. Schumacher’s new line of furniture designed by Timothy Corrigan.  The wave sofa and chair along with the raffia wrapped end table are a big hit, especially in South Florida.
